Maggie Leatherman, student at Chillicothe High School, suffered a broken ankle in a recent basketball game. With her doctor not in the office the following day, she had to go to the emergency room and be attended by doctors she did not trust. If Maggie had been able to see her nurse practitioner she trusted at her doctor's office, then she would not have to compromise on the Missouri law that nurse practitioners can not attend to a patient in full need. According to a set of authors and articles there is controversy whether nurses are qualified to perform excessive tasks than doctors. While citizens and doctors believe nurses are not qualified based on their short amount of schooling and lack of knowledge: nurses are qualified because regardless of their time spent in school, they do not lack knowledge.. Nurses are just as important and do just as much as doctors. Nurses are underestimated and not thanked enough for the hard work they achieve. Due to an increase in healthcare cost and need, the role of nurses is transforming; therefore, nurses should be able to prescribe narcotics, obtain autonomy, take roles, and increase pay.
